Biography, Emma Jones

Ms. Emma Jones was elected to the CUHSD Board in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 and 2018. A long term resident of El Centro, Ms. Jones came to Imperial County in 1965 to be a PE teacher at Central Union High School after graduating from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. Ms. Jones taught at CUHS between 1965 and 1995. During this time she worked with administration to implement the athletic program for girls, seeing sport teams increase from Tennis, adding softball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics. As sports for girls transitioned from GAA to competitive athletics. She later became an Assistant Principal for Southwest High School and helped facilitate the opening of the “new” school and served as the first AP of Curriculum and Scheduling. In 1997 she was asked to return to CUHS as Principal. She served as Principal until she retired in 2008.  An avid supporter of student athletes, you can often find her on the sidelines supporting both the Eagles and the Spartans. Ms. Jones coached softball from 1966 - 1988, Rightly so, the softball field at Central Union is named after her.  Ms. Jones was also the head women's tennis coach from 1967-1985. Ms. Jones is a member of the Rotary Club and serves on the El Centro Education Foundation committee.
